We made it!

So after a 30 hour travel day, we made it!  We arrived in Cape Town yesterday at 4:30 pm, traveled to our beautiful accommodations and enjoyed an authentic South African meal.  On the way to downtown Cape Town, we were able to view the Gugulethu township where we will be teaching as well as many scenic beauties including Table Mountain, Lions Head, the waterfront and even some wildebeests.  After checking into our apartments which sit at the base of Table Mountain overlooking the bay, we enjoyed a traditional 14 course meal at the “Africa Cafe.”  We were also treated to live entertainment provided by the wait staff which was nothing short of unbelievable.

In 45 minutes we are traveling to Guglethu to familiarize ourselves with the school we are teaching in and to set up for the camp which starts tomorrow.  We are then going to the V & A Waterfront for lunch and to get supplies.  At 2:00 we are taking a boat to Robben Island, the place where they held political and criminal prisoners such as Nelson Mandela during apartheid.  This is always my favorite activity here in Cape Town.  The night will include rehearsal, meetings and preparation for our first day of camp tomorrow.

As this is my third trip to South Africa, the comfort that I feel being back is unbelievable.  I am always overwhelmed by the beauty of the land and the hospitality of the people.   Even the smell of their rich coffee is soothing.

Check back for more updates later!
